In this you should need to back up your files and settings so that it can help your files stay protected in case of data loss or major system problems.
Steps for How to Upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7
1. Download the Windows 7 from its official website and burn the ISO on DVD or you can mount the ISO as drive using ISO mounting Tool
2. Use the Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory support\Migwiz and find the file named migsetup.exe
3. By clicking it, Windows East Transfer wizard open
4. Click on next and select the external hard disk or USB flash drive
5. Click on this is my old computer and then the software will scan your computer
6. After scanning the files that, profile, share items and add or remove folders and files will be listed
7. Select everything that you want to make safe by taking the backup in external drive
8. Click next and give the password
9. Click on save and locate the USB drive for saving windows Easy Transfer Files
10. Now Start the Windows 7 Setup by browsing to the root folder of the DVD in Windows Explorer and double click on the Setup.exe
11. Click on the Custom to perform the Windows XP to Windows 7 upgrade on your existing windows XP installation. When you do the custom installation i.e. windows XP to Windows 7 upgrade then all the earlier version of the windows will be stored in a directory named Windows.old folder. You should need to delete the folder after complete installation of the windows 7
12. Now choose the partition where you want to install the Windows 7 and where the Windows XP was installed till now and click on the next to proceed the process
13. The main process will start and it takes time. Once windows 7 installation completes, boot into your Windows 7
14. Click on the Start button and click on all programs, then accessories and then system tools and click on the Windows Easy Transfer
15. The windows Easy Transfer wizard will open
16. Click on the External hard disk or USB flash drive where you had stored the backup and click on This is my new computer
17. Click yes and open the file. Browse the location where the Easy Transfer files are saved
18. Click on the File name and the click on open
19. Click on the Transfer to transfer all the files and settings. You can also migrate by selecting only the user profiles you want to transfer or by clicking customize
20. Click on close after successful transfer of files and settings
Now you have completed the Windows XP to Windows 7 Upgrade. Now you can use a tool named Disk Cleanup to remove all the unwanted old files and free disk space.
